Love Those Beautiful Babies!

ust Like You is a strikingly beautiful picture book from Zondervan that celebrates the births of babies all around the world. Each baby is given a two-page spread that describes the arrival of the baby in a different culture and geographical location. The unique baby-welcoming traditions are shared, and the joy that new life brings into the world is clearly expressed.
The gentle message that God loves babies everywhere and sees them as a precious gift is clearly conveyed. The child that is being read the story is also specifically celebrated and referenced through the many "just like you" statements throughout the book, and more specifically in the mother who is narrating the story thanking God for the blessing of her new child.
This is definitely a book for mothers to read their beloved children, and - I'll be honest - it's a bit of a tearjerker. I simply can't read about the joy and delights of babies being born without shedding a few tears. After reading the book through by myself first, I wasn't sure if my children would really enjoy it. But they did.
Beautiful artwork of cute babies was enough to convince my three little girls that this was a book worthy of their attention. Illustrator Lin Wang has provided such lustrous, textured paintings of babies from around the world that the artwork alone is worth the asking price.
Just Like You would make a wonderful gift for a new mother (and her baby), and also serves as a very gentle introduction to some of the similarities and differences of regions around the world in both their geography and culture.

A wonderful gift to children who are expecting a new sibling in their family

He looked into the eyes of every tiny baby and laid them in their mothers' arms. He counted the hairs on each little head. And he called the angels to sing a lullaby of joy. Under his watchful eye, you and all of the children will grow tall and strong, and the world will never be the same. When I tuck you in tonight, all the stars of the universe will sparkle through your window. I'll close my eyes and thank God for his special gift to me. You were everything I wanted, because I wanted a baby... just like you." "Just Like You" is beautifully enriched with warmly colorful illustrations that celebrate the diversity of human cultures and races. "Just Like You" is perfect for reading to children ages 4-7, and would be a wonderful gift to children who are expecting a new sibling in their family.

My new favorite gift for new moms

I just received my copy of "Just Like You" in the mail, and immediately sat down to read it to my two-year-old son. As an international family, we are always looking for resources that teach him about the world. This book fits the bill beautifully. I love the way it so tenderly illustrates the love mothers have for their babies around the world, and how families celebrate new lives. I would recommend--in future editions, as I hope this books is in print for a very long time--that the book would include a map for pointing out all the places mentioned in the story. I will be purchasing multiple copies of this book to give to other new moms and dads. In fact, I'm buying another copy right now.
As an aside to the reviewer who gave the book 3 stars because it doesn't fit adoptive families, I don't think it's fair to discount the beauty of this book, which is intended for biological families, just as you wouldn't discount a book for adopted families because it doesn't match a book for biological families. (If you're looking for a beautifully done book for forever families, I highly recommend "Gotcha Day Blessing" by Dave Butler (look for it on etsy.com)
