About the Author
James Trefil is the Robinson Professor of Physics at George Mason University. A regular contributor to "Astronomy" magazine and a commentator for National Public Radio, he is the author or editor of more than twenty-five books, including "Are We Unique"? and the bestselling "Dictionary of Cultural Literacy". He lives in northern Virginia.

Robert M. Hazen is a scientist at the Carnegie Institution of Washington where he conducts astrobiological research in the Geophysical Laboratory. He is also the Clarence Robinson Professor of Earth Science at George Mason University. He received his M.S. in geology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. in earth sciences from Harvard University. Dr. Hazen is the author of The Breakthrough, Why Aren't Black Holes Black and the best-selling Science Matters: Achieving Scientific Literacy which he coauthored with James Trefil. Hazen and his wife live in Glen Echo, Maryland.

Excellently organized & written - KINDLE textbooks are the BEST!

This was a textbook for a science class. It was excellent reading and the online flashcards and quizzes definitely helped.
It was an online class so even more difficult and appreciated that it was available in KINDLE format, though because of the format and photos, I could only read it on a tablet or the computer. All other functions worked to help as well: Notes, Bookmarks, searches. KINDLE textbooks are the BEST. Extremely helpful for exam reviews and comments. Thank you. I also had a great online instructor. Jen Smythe - Moody Bible Institute which helped as well!

First I want to thank Amazon for sending my orders in a timely manner espacially the English Grammer and River reader books which I needed ASAP! As for the Sciences: An Intergrated approach is an excellent resource I have learned a great deal from this book along wth the lectures. The contents explains the science concepts very sensibly and comprehensively. The approach is intergrated from microscope to telescope including geology and the galaxies. I truly enjoyed studying the book so in essence I know how a microwave oven works and an oil refinery functions these are things that I never knew before neither was I aware of! Thanks to the Sciences By Hazen

About the Author

William Crain is professor of psychology at the City College of New York and is the editor of the journal, Encounter: Education for Meaning and Social Justice. He and his wife Ellen F. Crain, a pediatrician, have three grown children.

This fifth edition of Theories of Development is basically similar to the earlier editions. Its purpose, once again, is to introduce students to a variety of theorists, giving special attention to those who have contributed to that distinctly developmental perspective that began with Rousseau. The book focuses, that is, on writers who help us understand how development might arise from our inner promptings and spontaneous interests and how we might view the world differently at different stages of life.

This new edition updates several chapters. Most notably, it discusses recent critiques of Piaget's theory and the growing research that bears on Schachtel's theory of early memories. The book also suggests how Werner's holistic approach is becoming increasingly relevant, especially with respect to the current push for early literacy instruction. Werner's approach cautions us against rushing in to teach reading and writing skills at young ages. Instead, we should consider all the activities out of which literacy might more naturally emerge.

In the prior edition, published in 2000, I added an epilogue on the standards and testing movement that was sweeping the United States. I pointed out that this educational movement was focusing so exclusively on adults' goals and expectations that it was robbing children of the chance to develop their special strengths at their own stage of life. It would have been great if the standards movement had subsided since then. Instead, it has become even more powerful, causing children even more harm, as described in the revised epilogue.

Over the years, many people have contributed to this book. I would like to give special thanks to my wife Ellen. As always, she provided unwavering support and valuable insight. I also am deeply indebted to our children. It was initially by watching them that I became so impressed by the growth process I decided to write this book about it. Our children are grown now, but they continue to offer support and ideas that mean a great deal to me.

This new edition has benefited from critical readings and suggestions by professors Laurie S. Hunter, Francis Marion University; Coady Lapierre, Tarleton State University; Chadwick Royal, North Carolina Central University; and Judith Torney-Purta, the University of Maryland. A Love Story.

A love story for followers of FLW. The Peterson Cottage has always been my favorite FLW. To see it lovingly rehabilitated and cared for is both a tribute to the Architect and its original dreamer/owner. It's way up on my bucket list to see. Until then, I have this gem of a book.

About the Author

Georg Northoff is a neuroscientist, psychiatrists and philosopher holding degrees in all three fields. Being an endowed chair at the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research/Canada, he is well known and internationally recognized as one of the leading proponents of interdisciplinary work at the intersection between neuroscience, psychiatry and philosophy. His empirical work focuses on brain imaging of the self while his more theoretical work aims to develop the disciplines of neuropsychoanalysis and neurophilosophy. The way of the future

Ok so I read this one as part of a trilogy (Solms' Clinical studies in Neuropsychoanalysis and Bernstein's A basic theory of Neuropsychoanalysis being the other two), and as it turns out, Neuropsychoanalysis in practice may be the closest thing to a basic theory of this new discipline. While in his book Solms introduced the necessity of a transdisciplinary approach in order to tackle the fundamental problems about the human mind (not devoid out of beauty thanks to the clinical cases), Northoff goes all the way here, from philosophy of mind, to neuroscience, to psychoanalysis; with enough originality and refinement of ideas to constitute a tour de force. While its contents are way too complex for me to summarize here (just take a look at the table of contents), I feel after this Neuropsychoanalysis may be an enterprise with enough heaviness to stand on its own. Transepistemic integration, that's the way of the future.

This is a tough read, but worth the effort. This book is for psychologist, psychiatrists, neuroscientists, and philosophers. Dr. Northoff presents decades of scientific research from philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience to offer a trans-disciplinary perspective of how the mind works. This volume is one of the freshest perspectives that I have read in many years.

I think the only thing bad about these books is that they can't come out more quickly. You always want more to read. The characters are always so real and vibrant you want more and more and more!!!!

Olivia Lessing is trying to get back into the swing of things. For her it is not only the hey I have not been out to dinner with anyone in a few years so I am out of practice things only. It is hey I have not cooked my dinner in a few years or said hello to people in 10 years or brushed my teeth in 10 years....

Well you get the point. You see for the past 10 years Olivia has been living as a feral bear. She has just been readjusting to society these past few months. She is still learning to be around people again so when she runs into a mans who makes her feel all these feelings inside she has never dealt with before she doesn't know how to handle it. She panics, and needs to calm down. She gets out of there as fast as she can, and she runs before her bear takes over again.

Jasper Sargent is the son of Senator Sargent. He and his mate Craig have been looking for the bear they saw on a trip once three years ago. They have had no luck until this day, They knew at that time she was their mate, but they knew nothing else. Now they know her name is Olivia, and they could not find her, because she was feral. Jasper was showing two potential donors to his fathers campaign around when he ran into Olivia, and she ran off. Luckily for him they gave him all the gossip. All about her being feral, and killing the wolves. Now he has to tell Craig, and they have to figure out how they can get her. If they can't have her to complete their triad there is no one else.

See how Jasper, and Craig try to run into Olivia again. What they try to do to make her believe they can be one. Of course what will happen when Olivia is confronted with the truth of her past? A must read in this series!!!

Humanity vs bear form

bear. It's a big adjustment, right? Then add in the pointing, staring, and whispers of "It's her, that feral girl." and you can't really blame her. But she's determined to stay human because she knows her dads (yes, dads), mom, and brother missed her and need her to remain Olivia, not her bear. Olivia has coping techniques to help her. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. When Buck, the wolf shifter that held her captive in a cage for a few days in retaliation, pops back up in her life there's really no amount of counting, breathing exercises, or "ohmming," that can stop her from going furry. Buck is basically the equivalent of a bat signal for her bear...he's there and boom, her inner Yogi Bear is making her displeasure known. Why? She has reasons.

Now Jasper and Craig are mates and they know who their third is, yet haven't been able to find her for three years. They all eye locked at that time and the guys just knew who she was to them. Of course we're all "Did you ever think to introduce yourselves to her?" Well there is a catch, they were all bears at the time. See, a catch. Words are kind of difficult to accomplish as bears. Now they have their chance though to meet her. Jasper, while working, sees Olivia as she's enjoying her lunch and a book. (Yes, she had me at reading. LOL) Olivia panics and takes off. Jasper knows she's the one and let's Craig know he's found her. Let the wooing commence.

Can Craig and Jasper convince Olivia she's needed to complete their hearts? Will Olivia grasp that they truly love her as she is? Will Buck go away or continue to make Olivia's transition difficult?

While this is book four in the series, I was easily able to follow along without having read any of the previous books. Yes, those couples were mentioned, yet enough detail was given to help me understand the mating set up so I didn't feel lost. I do plan on going back and reading books one through three though, because I found this book quite interesting and I'd like to see how it all started. My suggestion? Give this book a try if you like paranormal romance. It's a short paranormal read and I think you'll like it.

The Librarian and Her Bears!

A Bear's Journey is the fourth book in the Shifter Country Bears series. It can be read as a stand alone. A Bear's Journey is the story of Olivia, who as introduced in the last book in the series. There are some twists and turns (or mystery). This is a fast paced, sizzling romance.

*Possible Spoiler*

Olivia Lessing is a bear shifter, who has been feral for 10 years. She is still working on adjusting to life in her human form again. Olivia struggles everyday with being around other people and communicating with people. She has to fight to not shift (to her bear form) and run away. So, Olivia makes lists of all the things that she likes about being human, like peanut butter and hugs.

Jasper Sargent, the son of Senator Sargent, and his partner and mate Craig have been looking to find third. The men feel that they saw the woman that could complete their triad a few years ago, but have not be able to locate her. Jasper spots the mystery girl/bear, Olivia, behind the library reading. Craig get excited, when he find out that Olivia lives in Cascadia.

Jasper and Craig learn that people believe that Olivia is the one that has killed the wolves. This doesn't stop the men for asking Olivia out on a date. Jasper and Craig stand by Olivia. They protect and support her, until Olivia feel more confident in herself.

"Okay," she said. "I think I'm normal again."
"You'll never be normal," said Jasper. "It's what we love you for."

The story of Olivia, Jasper, and Craig is a wonderful story about love and finding the person or people that make you feel complete. In my humble opinion, this story about feeling comfortable in your own skin or being okay to be yourself. I highly recommend this story to anyone. I loved that Roxie had Olivia working in a librarian and loved to read. ; )
