Excellent Basic Information on Type

This book is one of the only available if you are looking for basic information on the Bird Dog. Most of the pictures are black and white with a color section in the middle showing a variety of color schemes that were developed for the plane.

Book Condition

Book was advertised to be in very good condition, it was in fact in poor condition. As received it had every page stuck to another page and had to be carefully peeled apart to keep from tearing. Water damage was also found on the book. I had only purchased this book for the illustration pages showing the actual paint schemes of various operating units to get an idea of how we would paint the O-1 we are purchasing. These pages were usable for that or I would have returned it.

"O-1 Bird Dog in Action-Aircraft no 87"
I have beeen building a 1/4 scale radio controlled model of one of my favorite airplanes since May of 2009. It is all electric and probably put me almost over my head.
Trying to find information and graphics for this project was almost impossible. I Googled it, amazoned it, Microsofted it, and any other search engine I could find, with no luck.
One day while browsing Amazon Books, I came across exactly what I wanted, even though it never came up in Amazon's search engine.
The book(paperback) is a wealth of information and graphics. Anyone who is going to build the Bird Dog will truly enjoy this book

About the Author
Andrea Goldsmith received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. Too many errors!

I used this book for a graduate level wireless comm. class taught by the author herself. This book is rife with errors especially in the first few chapters. Things got so bad that I started questioning every result presented in the book that I could not immediately understand and prove, thinking that it might be incorrect. This book is not recommended for self study due to these numerous errors unless the reader is just browsing and wants a qualitative understanding. One observation is that the author sacrifices breadth for depth in her coverage of the material. A minor quibble is that the author misses opportunities to give simple proofs for "low hanging fruit" results and just keeps presenting page after page of results and formulae. These translate to missed opportunities to build intuition for the student. In summary this book while it tries to be comprehensive suffers severely from sloppiness and is not recommended.

Horrible Book

The only use that I can think of for this book is as a survey course. It covers a very wide range of topics in the field of wireless communications, but there is no depth to it at all. The author's approach is to give a brief description of what the subject at hand is and then present the "final result" equation. All of the in-between material that actually teaches you what is going on is missing. I am halfway through a graduate level course using this book and I am sick to death of reading "if you want to know where this equation came from, then buy these other books and read these other three papers." I'm sorry, but that is what your book is supposed to do. I understand that covering this many topics means you aren't going to hit every gritty detail. But you should be able to lead me to the "final result" in such a way that I understood how you got there and actually learn the material. The only use for this book is if you are dealing with one of the specific scenarios it uses and want quick access to the equation that you need for it. If you have a general or derivative case then good luck. This book will not help you get there.

Good breadth of subject, depth is lacking, lot of errors

The book gives a fairly good breadth of subject, but is lacking in depth, and also does not give good intuitive sense of the subject. The book contains lot of typos and numerical errors that need to be addressed.

The book seems more intent on giving a lot of formulas and wireless situations, instead of enabling the student to think independently, and giving the tools for the student to think and derive the answers to issues.

The chapter on channel models for example gives a bunch of models for different fading conditions, but does not even clarify when the models apply, and how to apply them. After reading the chapter, I am not sure when each model applies and how to apply them.

You will not learn too many macro models, however the assumption is that you know IS-LM and Mundell-Fleming models. Where the book is valuable is in interpreting those models in terms of policy-making. I really recommend the book as a complementary to a standard macroeconomics book.

Stories with a purpose that is trusted

Anthony de Mello's books generally fall into three groups - guided meditations; cross-cultural, interreligious, traditional teaching tales; and sayings of the Master in context. This book falls into the second category - traditional teaching tales. Fr. de Mello has categorized the stories into seven chapters: spirituality, education, authority, human nature, relationships, service and enlightment. Most of the stories are told without any "editorial" comments i.e. the author trusts the power of story. The selection is excellent coming from a wide variety of traditions and ages, including modern jokes such as "where do you plug it in?" when faced with a piano.
You can read the book straight through and get a lot of laughs or you can read it as intended, pondering the stories and risking having your life changed. The latter is the intend of the author.

They are highly thought provoking and illuminating. Nobody can resist a story and sometimes a story can change one's life.
Anthony DeMello was one of the great spiritual masters of our time. He was a Catholic priest of the Jesuit order, hailing from India. He died in New York on June 2nd, 1987. He has left behind a body of literature, which will continue to influence the world profoundly in the years to come.
